Keyboard Shortcuts

Project Succession provides keyboard shortcuts to speed up your workflow. Shortcuts are context-aware and work in different areas of the application.

Global Shortcuts

These shortcuts work anywhere in the application:

Ctrl+Shift+N (Windows/Linux)
⌘+Shift+N (Mac)
New SolutionOpens a dialog to create a new solution file (.succsln)
Ctrl+Shift+O (Windows/Linux)
⌘+Shift+O (Mac)
Open SolutionOpens a dialog to load an existing solution file

Tap and release Shift twice quickly to open Search Solution, or use Solution → Search Solution in the menu. Type to find files by name or path, and nodes by label, type, category, alias, parameter value, or expression. Script text and nested parameter values are searchable too, including literal paths and quoted text inside lists and objects. Matching node text appears in the result preview.

Use ↑ / ↓ to select a result, Enter to open its file or select and center its node, and Esc to close. Search includes openable files and graph contents in the solution folder (including subfolders), plus graphs listed in the solution outside that folder. Without a solution, it searches nodes in the current graph. The current graph uses live edits; other graphs use their saved contents. Reopening search refreshes the files. File contents outside nodes are not searched.

Normal Shift typing, modifier shortcuts, holding Shift, and Shift-click selection do not open search. If a source cannot be read, search shows a notice and keeps the available results.

Work Area Shortcuts

These shortcuts work when the graph editor (work area) is focused:

TabQuick Search (Edge Drag)Opens node search dialog while dragging an edge. Only works during edge drag
FFocus SelectionFits the view to the selected nodes, or fits the entire graph if nothing is selected
Shift+FAdd FrameAdds a new frame node at the center of the canvas
HToggle DisableDisables/enables selected nodes. Disabled nodes are greyed out and pass data through unchanged during execution (Studio plan and above)

Node Search Dialog

When the quick search is open (press Space or Tab in work area):

Tips

Workflow Efficiency

  1. Use Space for Node Insertion: Instead of dragging from the sidebar, press Space, type the node name, and press Enter
  2. Tab/Space-to-Create During Edge Drag: Start dragging from an output handle, press Tab or Space, search for a node, and it will be created and connected automatically. This Houdini-style workflow dramatically speeds up graph building
  3. Duplicate Frequently: Use Ctrl+D / ⌘+D to quickly duplicate node configurations
  4. Save Often: Ctrl+S / ⌘+S is your friend - save frequently to avoid losing work

Customization

Currently, keyboard shortcuts are not customizable. If you need custom shortcuts, please submit a feature request through the bug report dialog.

Accessibility

If you have difficulty using keyboard shortcuts due to accessibility needs:

  • All shortcuts have menu equivalents
  • Nodes can be added via drag-and-drop from the sidebar
